Biodata Photo Tips: How to Choose the Perfect Photo for Marriage

Updated · 5 min read

Your photo is the first thing anyone looks at on a biodata. A natural, well-lit photo makes the whole page look more trustworthy – and you don’t need a studio for it.

What makes a great biodata photo

  • Recent – taken within the last 6–12 months.
  • Natural light – face a window or stand outdoors in the shade. Avoid harsh midday sun and yellow indoor bulbs.
  • Plain background – a light wall, a garden or a soft blurred background. No cluttered rooms.
  • Face clearly visible – no sunglasses, caps or heavy filters. A gentle smile works best.
  • Head-and-shoulders or half-length framing. Group photos and cropped selfies look careless.

Outfit ideas

For girls

  • A saree, salwar suit or kurti in a solid colour or small print photographs beautifully.
  • Simple jewellery and light make-up keep the focus on your face.
  • Avoid colours that blend into the background.

For boys

  • A well-fitted formal shirt (light blue, white, pastel) or a simple kurta.
  • A blazer works well for a professional look; a tie is optional.
  • A fresh haircut and a neat beard or clean shave make a big difference.

Taking the photo with your phone

  1. Clean the camera lens and use the rear camera – it is much sharper than the selfie camera.
  2. Ask someone to stand 1.5–2 metres away and hold the phone at your eye level.
  3. Use portrait mode for a soft background, and tap your face to focus.
  4. Take 15–20 shots and pick the one where you look most relaxed.
  5. Don’t use beauty filters – the families will meet you in person.

Cropping and adding the photo to your biodata

In the biodata maker, upload your photo and use the built-in cropper to centre your face. The same photo is placed correctly on every template, so you can switch designs without uploading again.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Photos from weddings or parties with other people cut out.
  • Very old photos or ones edited to change skin tone.
  • Mirror selfies, gym photos and photos in sunglasses.
  • Blurry screenshots of a photo taken from another app.
